Western Australia to introduce a Container Deposit Scheme

BACK

The State Government’s container deposit scheme has the potential to benefit many community groups in Wanneroo.

Under the scheme, consumers will be able to get a 10 cent refund on containers for soft drinks, bottled waters, small flavoured milk drinks, sports drinks and spirit-based mixed drinks.

The Member for Wanneroo, Paul Miles, said the community desire for a container deposit scheme was very strong.

“Ever since I met with the Conservation Council of Western Australia (CCWA) recycling campaigner, Mika Leandro, back in 2013 I have been campaigning for such a program to be introduced into Western Australia”, Mr Miles said.

“I believe the scheme will complement our recycling culture. It will benefit charities, sporting groups and community groups. It’s a win for the environment, jobs, the community and the recycling industry”

The 10 cent refund will be available from reverse vending machines and collection depots at parks, beaches and other public spaces across Western Australia.

Groups that could benefit – any groups that undertake regular fundraising such as charitable groups, sporting clubs, Scouts and Guides, environmental groups, and surf lifesaving clubs.
